This is my second offering for the Media Barista’s Blog Challenge with a Twist, and it’s all about PATIENCE!
Marketing has never been a pursuit for the jackrabbits among us; it’s always been about taking time and care to track and analyze your carefully crafted campaigns. Developing a clear understanding of your marketplace and growing a community is not something that sprouts wings and takes off on its own. It requires nurturing, awareness and, yes, PATIENCE!
It surprises me that businesses that enter into social media often miss this point. For some reason they think that since the Internet is fast, and usually free, that social media will also be that way. It isn’t. While it’s perfectly sane to think that you can develop a community using free platforms, it’s not reasonable to expect that you don’t have to make a commitment to growing and maintaining it. It’s also not reasonable to expect that results will fall into your lap without the input of some time, effort, and yes, PATIENCE!
I’m just beginning my third year with Millipede. It took me at least a year to get my head around how to use social media, where to be, and what to say. It’s really only been in the last 6 months that I’ve begun to see some real ROI. Could I have done it faster? Yes, definitely, but I’m one person who has to both work in and on my business. And I’m patient. The knowledge and insights I’ve garnered by taking my time has been well worth it. As I’ve noted before, I know what my brand is.
Growing a community and the ability to keep it engaged is a bit like falling in love and keeping romance alight. Therefore, since it’s nearly Valentine’s Day AND to keep me on track with a music inspired post, how about a little Guns n’ Roses?
