Hey all you Social Media Bad Spuds, Where Have you Been Living?

I know; I know this is a well-trodden path. A quick search will turn up more articles on social media etiquette than there are cat hairs all over my keyboard. But it doesn’t seem to matter how many people say it, there’s still a whole lot more people that ignore it! That fact alone makes this article worth my time to write. This is my last installment in the Media Barista’s Blogging Challenge with a Twist and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the fun of linking my thoughts to a song.

Potato_Sack_Guy_2_previewToday, I have to ask the all the social media bad spuds out there, Are you “living in your own private Idaho”? Why are you ignoring all the rules and going “underground like a wild potato”? Do you think we’re buying the ‘Oh, I didn’t know’ line any longer? Really? “Get out of that state! Get out of that state you’re in”!

Last week after visiting a collection of Friday Connection Parties, I received a message on my Millipede Facebook page from a fellow announcing that he liked my page. He then rather rudely told me, not asked me, to like back three different pages and made sure to say that I’d better do it with my personal profile so that my like counted!

I’m sorry, WHAT???

Meanwhile over on Twitter I was gifted with a raft of auto DMs and spammy messages for my efforts at growing my connections via Follow Friday. “Where do I go from here to a better state than this”? This is NOT what social business is about. I’m likely preaching to the choir here, but what is going on, people?

It just seems to me that things are getting worse not better. Why do people keep doing these kinds of very unlovable things? Well, you bad spuds out there, “don’t be blind to the big surprise” when you get rejected, disconnected, and sent back to “your own private Idaho”!
